We need a volunteer from each Pradeshiya Sabha. Please call 011-497-9795 or email info@3rasia.org if you can. As the 3R volunteer you'll focus on positives and report anything that the Sabha does to promote 3R. You may also inform and educate them and the general public to the extent possible. We'll give you all the support you need.

3R initiative at LIRNEasia seeks to make our environment more livable by advocating the application of the 3 fold environmental concept --reduce reuse recycle-- in all aspects of life by all sectors of society, and closing the gaps in 3R related information.

Guidance for Trainees
Balangoda Urban Council conducting it's fifth training session trained 39 trainee Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and Two trainers of National Institute of Health Sciences, Galle on solid waste management (SWM).

PHIs are one of the different types of officials who have to take responsibility of managing solid Waste in local authorities. In addition to dealing with food hygiene and other public health aspects SWM has earned a considerable attention among responsibilities of a PHI owing to needs of controlling dengue out breaks and pollution of water sources. Therefore practical training on proper solid waste management is a vital component. Initiate taken by NIHS, Galle to incorporate practical solid waste management in to PHI training curriculum is praiseworthy.

SWM today requires  not only technical knowledge but also management skills and innovative ideas to face the challenges arinsing. Balangoda UC rich in all these qualifications is an ideal place for young PHIs to gain knowledge.
