We need a volunteer from each Pradeshiya Sabha. Please call 011-497-9795 or email info@3rasia.org if you can. As the 3R volunteer you'll focus on positives and report anything that the Sabha does to promote 3R. You may also inform and educate them and the general public to the extent possible. We'll give you all the support you need.

3R initiative at LIRNEasia seeks to make our environment more livable by advocating the application of the 3 fold environmental concept --reduce reuse recycle-- in all aspects of life by all sectors of society, and closing the gaps in 3R related information.

Friday, 17 July 2009

Aquamantra Premium Bottled Water has begun selling its product in what it´s calling the world´s first 100% biodegradable, recyclable and compostable plastic bottle.

The Whole Foods Market in Tustin, Calif., began selling the product this month. The bottles are polyethylene terephthalate, and not made from polylactic acid, said Alexandra Teklak, founder and president of Dana Point, Calif.-based company. The bottles are made by Phoenix-based Enso Bottles LLC and will break down within 10 months in landfills through anaerobic or aerobic decomposition. They also will biodegrade in a compostable environment in 250 days.

The bottles have an organic additive developed by Enso that attracts microbial colonization. They perform like traditional PET bottles and can be recycled with PET containers, according to Aquamantra.
